I’ve spent 18 years as a financial advisor.
Here are 3 ugly truths that new advisors should know. 👇
1 - It’s going to be difficult to get started.
Starting from zero is ALWAYS an uphill struggle.
You’re going to hear a lot of No’s.
No clients, no practice, no growth.
But a decent chunk of “making it” is just banging your head against the wall, until things start to work.
It takes a lot of hard work, a lot of time, and a lot of sleepless nights to get things going.
But you have to keep at it.
The surest way to fail is to give up!
2 - Some people will always be against your ideas.
There’s a saying - “you can bring a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink”.
Even if you have the best plans and ideas, a few folks won’t like them.
You have to be accepting of the fact that you will be misunderstood.
Financial advice is a people business - being a good human goes a long way =)
3 - It takes a LOT of effort to get the engines roaring.
Motivation fades.
Discipline doesn’t.
Not everyone can keep walking ahead when there’s no clear light at the end of the tunnel.
But you have to stay on the path.
In this business, you eat what you kill.
And the universe rewards those who do the hard things even when they don’t feel like it.
