Over the last few years, I’ve sold $750 million of real estate in Dubai, London, and New York. Here are 3 harsh truths about entrepreneurship which I’ve learnt the hard way. 👇
1/ It is ALWAYS about your people.
Great businesses are built by great people.
The folks you hire in your business will make it or break it, so make sure you have a killer team - even if it hurts your wallet a little. An excellent hire pays for themselves multiple times over.
Your business’s trajectory changes when you find people who share the same values as you - because you can teach hard skills, but you can’t teach discipline, resilience, or attitude.
Build a great team with rock-solid integrity and even better execution skills - then get out of their way.
You’ve hired them because they’re magicians at what they do, and the magic will happen soon enough.
2/ Ideas are worthless. Execution is everything.
Our world is run by people who think fast, fail fast, and learn fast.
This is because the money is in the execution - not the idea.
So many people are worried their idea isn’t ‘good enough,’ when they should instead be afraid that they aren’t taking action on it.
Ideas are only worth something when you turn them into reality - which is impossible unless you get in the arena and start executing.
No need for fancy business plans, no need for bureaucracy, and no need for lengthy meetings on trivial things. All you need is good old hustle.
Remember - no business has ever failed on a spreadsheet.
3/ It’s an incredibly lonely journey. 🤷
All wins are your wins, but so are all mess-ups, all mistakes, and all losses.
People don’t want to share in your bad times, but they definitely want to be there when you’re successful. No one will keep you accountable but your own grit and your own resilience, because you will eventually realise that no one is coming to save you.
All you can do is put in more sweat, more tears, and more hours in, and keep hustling.
Every big company, every big sportsman, and every big empire was built from small, consistent, daily effort - NOT from one hit wonders.
Remember: nothing happens at all, and then it all happens at once. Push through until that day.
